Who?

Who are you?

It's not the first question you ask when you meet someone, but it's the first thing you want to know.  And so I oblige...
I am Christine.

I'm 23 years old, a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in History.  I live in my medium sized hometown in East Texas.  I teach history to high schoolers.  My birthday is usually the first day of Spring.

Blogspot:  I shopped around a few years ago for the perfect place to start a good blog.  I picked LiveJournal.  And I like it.  And I'm stubborn.  But I need to restart, refocus, and be a little more discerning about what I put up for all the world to see.
So, this blog is about my walk through life, what I think, consider, experience, and deal with.  My personal philosophy is 'question everything, consider everything, pursue God's face, love people, seek truth, resolve yourself, think about mortality, read a lot, and choose seas over mud puddles.'

The Most Important Thing:  I never thought I'd be one of those people.  You know, one of those people who speak spiritual-talk, and say that Jesus is their best friend and their hero.  Sure, I thought faith was a good thing, but sometimes I sit in church and laugh that I'm actually there!  Because you see the most important thing in my life - literally more important than anyone in it or even life itself - is God.  The trinitarian God of the Bible.  Don't let me lose you yet!  The crazy thing is... it's actually true.  Because if there is this being that is not conformed by time and space, who made everything, and knows exactly what is best for you, and loves you no matter what, and all he wants is for you to recognize the magnitude of who he is, how insignificant that makes you, yet how significant you are to him, and then love him back - for your pleasure and his own...well what more beautiful, more meaningful, more important relationship is there?

Libertarian:  I am not politically apathetic.  I consider my thoughts and beliefs on governance and economics to be an extension of "love thy neighbor."  I have been figuring out my political beliefs since high school, really, and I have come to some uncommon conclusions, all of which, I shall not share.  But, I will share a little bit (probably more than I should), so some of my guiding principles:The less government, the better.
The non-aggression principle is the basis for everything.
War is a racket, but there are rare occasions of just war, but it is to be avoided at all costs.
I am anti-abortion ethically and legally.
No one (black, white, Arab, Native American, homosexual, straight, atheist, Buddhist, male, female, young, old, democrat, anarchist, schizophrenic, carnivore, etc) should be denied rights for any reason, but that they have first violated the rights of others.
Marriage is a sacrament, not to be regulated by the government.
Freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.
Politicians lie.
Capitalism works itself out fairly if you leave it alone.

Historia:  I study history.  I love history.  I'm passionate about history.  I believe that an understanding of history is essential for people to have a real understanding of the present.  Therefore, it plays into most of what I say and think.  I have a historical, skeptic, and Christian worldview.  Specifically, I love Tudor history, Medieval through Early Modern European history, and Ancient Mediterranean history. I also try to study the background and context of Bible times, including church history.  :)  I'm a bit of a nerd, and not at all ashamed of it. :D

A Heart For:  family, music, fairytales, good quotes, discipling high school girls, the weird ones, books, underdogs, old stuff, words, and teaching.

Doctrine:  ProtestantTrinitarianComplimentarianApostle's Creed.  Salvation through faith alone.  Scripture alone is the authority.  Jesus Christ is the Son of God incarnate, born of the virgin Mary, living a sinless life, and dying as a substitution in atonement for the sins of man.  Adult/Believers Baptism.  Awaiting the second Coming.  TULIP.  I'm a member of a SBC Baptist church, but I could fit in a few places. :)

"No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.  For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 8:37-39
